Insight into Lane Home Furnishings

Posted by Jessica, BiOH Polyols Marketing Manager on March 30, 2009

At the Las Vegas Market in February, Leslie Carothers caught up with Morgan Files, Director of Advertising for Lane Home Furnishings about Lane’s upholstered furniture products and their use of BioFlex™ Hybrid foams made with soy-based BiOH® polyols. It’s unscripted and a bit choppy, but it’s our first video attempt! Here’s what Morgan had to say…

Earth Hour is Saturday, March 28 at 8:30pm your local time. Supported by the World Wildlife Fund, the goal this year is for 1 billion people to turn their lights off for one hour during the 2009 Earth Hour. Over 1,000 cities in 81 countries around the globe have already agreed to go dark for Earth Hour including one close to many members of the BiOH team… Minneapolis!

From the Beginning: What does a Polyol Look Like?

Posted by Jessica, BiOH Polyols Marketing Manager on March 17, 2009

Even though the word polyol rolls off my tongue (or off my fingertips on the keyboard!) more than 20 times a day, it is not the simplest type of product to explain to your friends and family. So I thought it might be helpful to go back to the “show and tell” days of elementary school and share a picture of our BiOH® polyols.

Soy-based BiOH Polyol on Foam

Our soy-based BiOH polyols are typically shipped in bulk via large rail cars, tank trucks, or containers to our foam customers. They then blend BiOH polyols with other ingredients (primarily petroleum-based chemicals) to make the foam. You can see a rough diagram of how foam is made on our B2B site – BiOH.com. The foam products are then cut and shipped to furniture and mattress manufacturers, incorporated into sofas, chairs, and mattresses, sold through retailers, and then brought to their new home. Quite an exciting adventure from BiOH polyol to comfy sofa!

Thinking about Remodeling? Consider Adding a Little Soy Beneath your Carpet

Posted by Jessica, BiOH Polyols Marketing Manager on March 10, 2009

Our living room is one of my favorite rooms in our house. It has plush carpet with a quality cushion beneath it, and it makes the living space so enjoyable. The flooring is a fit with our rambunctious toddler, supportive for the occasional abdominal work out, and great to flop down on with a pillow to watch Sunday afternoon movies. It fits our lifestyle.

That’s one of the reasons that I’m excited to share a product that brings you both comfort and performance – with some soy love as well! Platinum Plus carpet cushion from Healthier Choice comes with many features that may be a good choice for your home.

Will Small Town Soybeans Feel at Home in the Big City?

Posted by Jessica, BiOH Polyols Marketing Manager on March 4, 2009

Absolutely says Susan Rapp, Lifestyle and Creative director for Urban Lifestyle Decor; soy foam cushions belong in a big city dwelling. Her latest blog post entitled “The Urban Natural Lifestyle: Eco-Decor with Natural LEE + BiOH” makes the case that stylish furniture made with soy foam cushions fits with an urban lifestyle.

That’s quite a journey for a small soybean grown in the fields of the midwest far away from six-lane freeways and skyscrapers. (In fact, it’s a bit like my journey from small town Iowa to the Minneapolis suburbs. I think those soybeans and I have a lot in common!) Yet as the soybeans are transformed throughout the supply chain into foam cushioning on a piece of beautiful and stylish furniture, I think they’ll fit perfectly into the metropolitan lifestyle… bringing a little piece of small town to the city.
