Our featured company today is Comfort Design. Launched in the spring of 2009, Comfort Design is a new line of leather and fabric upholstery produced in North Carolina (and made using soy cushions with BiOH® polyols!) The company is led by Phil Cooper, who has said, “We want Comfort Design to be known for American-crafted products that are undeniably well-made, extremely fashionable and offer an exceptional value.”

We stopped by their beautiful showroom in High Point, NC in April and captured some videos of some of my favorite styles. This first piece caught my attention right away… unique shape, lovely fabric, while looking so comfortable that you want to sit on it! Check out the Frankie chair –

Now check this sofa out. I love the fabric on this style and the pillows are fabulous accessories. (Inspiration from that pin stripe suit in your closet!)

Stay tuned for more information on Comfort Design and their products. I think they’re off to a great start!

wow! This is actually exciting & so refreshing to see a company put it’s money where its mouth is so to speak! finally someone making what everyone is looking for, and asking for! I will be very excited to see these furniture collections in stores where I can purchase them. It’s a wonderful alternative to leather & dangerous chemical materials. An authentic, honest alternative for consumers.
I think companies will find themselves prosperous in the future when they learn tolisten to real people & make real products such as these. As a consumer, I ‘vote’ with my dollars. I refuse to support companies or manufacturers who do not try to think of the future or what I really want.
    thank you!
and looking forward to seeing more!

I am in love, the Frankie chair and ottoman are awesome. One of my all time highs for furniture is a chaise, but many times it just takes up too much space in the room. This combination gives me the best of both worlds. Then it just gets better with the products made in U.S. and with soy foam cushions with BiOH polyols. WIN-WIN on all counts!! Fantastic

I love the use of the soy for furniture! What a fantastic process!

All of the fabrics look great! But how do they feel? Owning a designer fabric showroom we see alot of Green or Sustanable fabrics and not all of them are great to the touch. The furnishings look great also.

Wonderful looking furniture! Wish I could test it out right now in person, but I bet it’s very comfortable too.

  • Mary Beth Hunt said on July 16, 2009:

My sofa test is 1….How does it feel when I LAY DOWN on it and 2….is the FABRIC CUTE?!!!

    WINNER in both counts.

LOVING the simple, masculine fabrics. LOVE it. And those “mismatched” pillows. The Sofa is “Plop-Worthy”.

And all made here? By Local people?

Glad you are getting the word out. This is a GREAT line!

I have a definite spot for the Frankie Corner Chair. I have several friends who would choose to sit in the corner- you know the type. Soy, too. Sounds like something they would actually like to talk about.

I love the flexibility of the Frankie chair/ottoman/chaise/tete-a-tete – how wonderful for small-space decorating! I’ll look forward to hearing which of my local furniture shops carry this line.

@LouAnn – Most of the rougher-feeling sustainable fabrics – especially the recycled-content ones – are designed for commercial and hospitality, not residential, applications. I can’t comment on the particular fabrics we see in the videos, but I’ve used some natural-fibre green options (organic cotton velvet, bamboo-blend with a silky texture) that felt *divine*.

Thank you all for sharing comments about the new Comfort Design line! Look for more info on where these products can be found at retail in the coming months… glad you enjoyed the sneak peek!

The selected winning comment on this post was from Mary Beth Hunt! We loved her honest response about how she shops for a sofa… and so happy she found it “plop-worthy”! Congrats Mary Beth!
